The artist has handed over the entirety of his £25,000 award cash to the trust for venues, which works to protect the Britain's small music venues.

The star was given the prize on October 16 as his new release the album was named the top album of the previous year.

He has chosen to hand the money over to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist 38 small stages across Britain.

The money helped venues that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges caused by flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that money from performances in big venues backs the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just sensible," the star has commented.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his honor winnings to worthy causes.

In they received the award in the mid-90s for their record Different Class, vocalist Cocker declared that the band would donate their cash to the organization the charity.

During 2002, artist she divided her award between multiple good causes, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they required updated gear," she shared with a publication.

Previously, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the community center that supported their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year M People donated their prize to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," said vocalist Heather Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory touched the lives of others."

Last week, the trust announced it had protected two grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in that area and the other in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by a national body and music fans who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
